SDEO PERA Syllabus, Preparation, and Bare Acts

Are you an aspirant for the Sub Divisional Enforcement Officer (SDEO) position in the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA)? Understanding the syllabus and having a solid preparation strategy is key to success. This guide will walk you through the exam pattern, a detailed breakdown of the syllabus, and the bare acts you need to focus on for your SDEO PERA preparation.

The Exam Pattern and Important Instructions

The written examination for the SDEO (BS-16) post, as conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), consists of three papers. The exam has a specific phasing:

  • Phase-I: Candidates are initially called for Paper-I and Paper-III.

  • Phase-II: Only those who score at least 40% in each of the first two papers are then called to take Paper-II, the English Essay.

To qualify for the interview, a candidate must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and 50% in aggregate across all three papers. It is also important to note that there is negative marking, with a deduction of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer in the multiple-choice question (MCQ) papers.

A Detailed Look at the Syllabus

The syllabus is divided into three main papers, each focusing on a specific area of knowledge.

Paper-I: General Knowledge (100 Marks)

This is an MCQ-based paper that tests a candidate’s overall awareness. The topics include:

  • Pakistan Affairs

  • Geography

  • Everyday Science

  • Mathematics

  • Urdu and Islamic Studies (with a separate General Knowledge section for non-Muslim candidates)

  • Information Technology and the use of AI

  • Current Affairs

  • English

This paper may also contain questions to assess your logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning abilities.

Paper-II: English Essay (100 Marks)

This is a descriptive paper requiring you to write an essay of 1000-1200 words on a given topic. The topics often revolve around governance, law, and other current social and political issues in Pakistan. Success in this paper requires a clear introduction, a logical body, and a concise conclusion, along with good grammar, a strong vocabulary, and cohesive writing.

Paper-III: Laws (100 Marks)

This is another MCQ-based paper that focuses on legal knowledge directly relevant to the SDEO’s role. It tests your understanding of several key bare acts and rules.

SDEO PERA Bare Acts

For Paper-III, you need to have a strong grasp of the following bare acts and laws:

  • The Punjab Enforcement and Regulation Act, 2024

  • The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (CrPC)

  • The Pakistan Penal Code, 1860 (PPC)

  • The Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act, 2024

  • The Punjab Prevention of Hoarding Act, 2020

  • The Punjab Tenancy Act, 1887

  • The Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1967

  • The Colonization of Government Lands (Punjab) Act, 1912

  • The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Operations and Procedures) Rules, 2025

This comprehensive syllabus and focused approach will help you prepare effectively and increase your chances of success.
